Esfir Ilyinichna thrust
Esfir Iljinitschna Schub ( Russian Эсфирь Ильинична Шуб ), also known as Esther Schub (* March 4th July / March 16, 1894 greg. In Surasch ; † September 21, 1959 in Moscow ) was a Soviet film director and is considered a pioneer of the Compilation movie .
She gained fame in 1927 with the film “Padenije dinastii Romanowych” (The Fall of the Romanov Dynasty) on the 10th anniversary of the Russian February Revolution . She put together old, partly neglected archive material from the time of the tsarist rule into a documentary film . She replaced no longer usable material with new, self-made scenes in order to convey a holistic impression. This film was followed by two further compilation films: "The Great Way" (1927) and "Leo Tolstoy and Russia Nicholas II. " (1928)
