The Espace Arena in Biglen is the sports hall in which the Floorball Tigers play their home games.

history

The Espace Arena was created by a project of the handball club BSC Grosshöchstetten. Due to the size of the club and the numerous junior teams, the hall capacity in Grosshöchstetten was no longer sufficient for the club. As early as 1997, the association was considering building its own sports hall, but the major project failed because no suitable location could be found. The cooperation with several surrounding sports clubs, including the Lions Konolfingen, also failed. In February 2000, the initiators asked the Biglen community for the construction of the sports hall. The capacities in the Bern community were still sufficient. The hall situations, with two smaller sports halls, were not considered optimal. The community dealt with the construction of its own sports facility, which, however, was not appreciated by the citizens for financial reasons.

The request of the initiators made it possible to talk to the community. Under the condition that the facility can be used for school sports, the municipality provided the association with a plot of land with building rights for 50 years free of charge. Within four weeks, the association was able to develop a usage and financing concept and rent out the hall in advance and ensure the event operation. One year after the opening, capacities were already running out again due to the handball boom.

With the death of the main shareholder of Espace Arena Emme AG, who also owned a large block of shares, the organization had to be restructured. Beat Rüegsegger took over the share package from the community of heirs and restructured the company. To this end, Rüegsegger founded Espace Sport GmbH, which rented the entire hall with the premises. Espace Sport GmbH is responsible for the rental contracts of the various sports clubs, companies, communities, schools and organizers. The entire restoration business has been leased to the Floorball Tigers since 2014 .

use

With the merger of the clubs BSC Grosshöchstetten and HBC Worb in 2005, Espace Handball was created. Some of the hall capacities could be outsourced to Worb.

The main users of the Espace Arena are the Floorball Tigers, who play their home games in the sports hall. The majority of the training operations are also carried out in the Espace Arena.

reachability

The Espace Arena can be reached within around three minutes from Biglen train station and is recommended by organizers as there is insufficient parking space with 110 spaces.
