Esprit Requien (born May 6, 1788 in Avignon , † May 30, 1851 in Bonifacio in Corsica ) was a French botanist , paleontologist and malacologist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Req. "

Live and act

He was director of the Botanical Garden in Avignon from 1809, also director of the Calvet Museum. From 1840 he was curator at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris.

He mainly dealt with the flora of southern France and Corsica. Over 100 initial descriptions come from his hand.

When the Société Cuvierienne was founded in 1838 , he was one of the 140 founding members of the society.

Honors

A genus of plants Requienia DC. from the legume family (Fabaceae), a mushroom genus Requienella Fabre and an animal genus Requienia (molluscs) have been named after him.
