Essl Art Award CEE

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Essl Art Award CEE ( spelling ESSL ART AWARD CEE ) is an art award founded by Agnes and Karlheinz Essl for art students from Central and Southeastern European countries. Since 2005, two winners per country have been honored equally.

Concerns, history and exhibitions

In a selection process, young art students are supported in order to facilitate their entry into an artistic career and to enable them to have an international discourse on their works. The award offers a glimpse of the young art scene in Central and Southeast Europe. “What motivates young artists in this region of Europe, how do they deal with the social, political and cultural upheavals and changes? What role does the private sphere play for them, which international art trends do they reflect? ”In 2013 Turkey is a new country.

Since 2005, the art prize has been promoting young artists in the CEE region (Central and Eastern Europe) every two years. The jury is international. Every two years there is a complete exhibition in the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg with the works of the winners. Some works are acquired for the Essl Collection . Since 2009, sponsored by the Vienna Insurance Group , a national winner has been invited to a group exhibition in the Ringturm in Vienna . The jury chairman since 2005 has been René Block .

Application and selection

Art students apply online. The jury will select ten artists for each country of origin, again in an online process. Ten art students will be nominated per country. An exhibition is held for them together in each country. The jury travels to these state exhibitions and decides on two equal winners per country.

numbers

By 2012, 33 art academies and 1,500 art students were involved. More than 4000 works were submitted. The jury consisted of 18 changing members and 27 exhibitions were held in 8 countries. By 2012, there were 46 top-ranking art students and 23 special invitations, 31 men and 38 women, born between 1974 and 1988.

In 2013 the competition took place for the fifth time. Applicants from Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and (for the first time) Turkey took part.
