The Estadio Colima is a football stadium in Colima , the capital of the state of the same name in Mexico . It is located in the Colonia Albarrada in the south of the city.

history

The opening game of the stadium, which was built in the early 1980s, played a combined team of the Tecos de la UAG and the Pumas de la UNAM against Atlético Madrid . The combination of these three clubs came about because they wanted to have a native Colimenser with them, whom they found in Rafael "El Macanas" Luna, who was under contract with the Tecos at the time. The participation of the other two clubs resulted from the fact that the then Mexican superstar Hugo Sánchez , whose participation was also desired, had recently moved from the Pumas to Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Primera División . The game ended 3: 3.

The stadium has since served as the home ground for various clubs in the second, third and fourth Mexican leagues. In the second division the CD Colimense (1993/94) and the Huracanes de Colima (2004/05) were represented for only one season . The second division with the most seasons were the Jaguares de Colima and most recently the city was represented for three years by Pegaso Real de Colima in the Primera División 'A' from 2006 to 2009 .

Explanations

  1. The quoted article from May 29, 2013 reports that the stadium has existed for 31 years, which could be mathematically meant 1982. But it is also reported that the game took place shortly after Hugo Sánchez switched to Atlético Madrid, which happened in the summer of 1981.
