Loros de la Universidad de Colima is a football team that belongs to the Universidad de Colima and is based in Colima , the capital of the Mexican state of Colima of the same name .

history

The professional team of Loros ( Spanish for parrots ) was founded in 1981 and initially played in the Tercera División . In its early days, the team was trained by the former World Cup participant and multiple Mexican champion Héctor Hernández , until he was seriously injured in an accident and died soon after. For the 1986/87 season, the still young club acquired the second division license of city rivals Jaguares and played for a year in the Segunda División, which was still second at the time . After the end of the season he sold his second division license to Club Apatzingán and joined the Tercera División again. Soon after, the license was transferred or the club was converted to the newly formed Club Deportivo Colimense .

In the 1992/93 season "Colimense" won the championship of the Tercera División and rose to the Segunda División, which was still second class at the time . However, the "Segunda" held the rank of a second division only during the 1993/94 season and was replaced in this role by the 1994/95 newly introduced Primera División 'A' .

For the 2006/07 season, the club , which now appears under the name of CF Palmeros de Colima , acquired the license to participate in the now third-class Segunda División from CF Soccer Manzanillo , whose B-team was not allowed to perceive the promotion it had achieved in sport.

Before the 2008/09 season, the Universidad de Colima acquired the club and gave it back its original name, under which it has since been represented in the Segunda División. Under this name, the club found its way back to its former strength, won several season winners and even reached the finals against Mérida FC when it first participated in the Apertura in 2008 , which were only lost on penalties, as well as the semi-finals in the Clausura 2009 and twice each Clausura 2010.
