The Dead Man is a 582.2 m high mountain in the Ruhla Forest in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .
The Dead Man is located on the Rennsteig , about 2 kilometers west of the center of Ruhla. The name is borrowed from medieval mining and means "dump with deaf (worthless) rock". As a result, a mining company had mined ores on the mountain and the spoil dump gave the forest site a distinctive name.
The spur to the north also belongs to the ridge
- Wachstein ( ⊙ 530 m above sea level )
On the hiking trail to the Wachstein - the northern tip of the mountain with the rock "Grebestein" you come across the memorial for the Eisenach forest official Schmidt-Burgk and directly on the Grebestein the memorial plaque for Carl Grebe , who helped set up this forest department. The shortest access from Ruhla is through the "Lappengrund" and leads past the place of the former forester's house "Hubertushaus", which was a popular restaurant for excursions before the Second World War.
