The Estadio Marte R. Gómez (full name: Estadio Marte Rodolfo Gómez Segura ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Ciudad Victoria , the capital of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas . It is the home ground of the UAT Correcaminos football club and seats 18,000.
history
The facility is located on the grounds of the Unidad Cívica, Social y Deportiva "Adolfo Ruiz Cortines" , the construction of which into a large and versatile sports facility began in the 1920s. The Estadio Marte R. Gómez was built in 1938/39 under the direction of the engineer Marte R. Gómez Segura and opened on October 19, 1939. The Berlin Olympic Stadium was used as a model for the construction .
The stadium was called Estadio Victoria for a long time before it was given its current name in honor of the former politician MR Gómez. Before the founding of the UAT Correcaminos university team, the stadium was used for long stretches as a venue for amateur football games and, in particular, home games for the Cuerudos de Ciudad Victoria football team , which was an integral part of the second division between 1959 and 1978 .
In 2012 the Estadio Marte R. Gómez was renovated.
