Estadio Revolución Mexicana is a football stadium in Pachuca de Soto , the capital of the Mexican state of Hidalgo . It is located on the Viaducto Río de las Avenidas (on the corner with Calle Jaime Nunó ) in the Colonia Periodistas .

history

The stadium was opened on December 14, 1958 by the then governor of the state of Hidalgo, Alfonso Corona del Rosal, and served CF Pachuca , whose team previously played at Campo de Juego Margarito Ramírez , for the next 35 years as the home ground of the first and Mexican second division .

The footballers of CF Pachuca celebrated their greatest success in this stadium with the championship title of the second division in the season 1966/67. This entitled to promotion to the first division, where the Tuzos played their home games in this stadium from 1967 to 1973 and later again in the 1992/93 season.

The last first division game in the Estadio Revolución played Pachuca on January 31, 1993 against Necaxa . The last first division goal in this stadium was scored by Apolinar Cortés for the Tuzos to a 3: 4 goal in the 82nd minute.

In February 1993 the first team moved to the newly built and much larger Estadio Hidalgo , while the Estadio Revolución continued to serve as the home ground for its reserve teams in the third and fourth leagues and as a training ground for its youth teams.

In 2008 the stadium was temporarily closed to make some modernizations. These included, among other things, the construction of a running track with four lanes and the roofing of the grandstands. The reopening took place on March 27, 2011 in the presence of the governor Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong.
