Estadio San Isidro , formerly known as Estadio de la Herradura , is the oldest football stadium in the Mexican city of Torreón in the state of Coahuila . In the late 1960s and early 1970s, it served as the home ground of CF Laguna in Mexico's Primera División .

history

The history of the stadium is closely linked to José Alvarado, who was also known in his circle of friends by the nickname "El Arrojado" (Eng. "The Entrepreneur"). In 1945 he met Ernesto Bredée, the owner of Rancho San Isidro . On this there was a well-tended polo field that was hardly used in the end, as his sons now lived elsewhere. Alvarado asked Bredée if he would make part of the area available for the construction of a soccer field and Bredée agreed to the sale.

Alvarado and his friends, who are also enthusiastic about football, raised the necessary amount and built a stadium with wooden stands on both sides of the field, creating the first football stadium in the region. Over the years, the stadium has changed and, among other things, a back stand was built on the north side of the stadium, giving it the shape of a horseshoe, which explains its long-term name (Estadio de la Herradura).

societies

The most important teams from Torreón - including the Deportivo España , co-founded by the future professional goalkeeper Florentino López - played their home games in the stadium.

From its founding in November 1953 until the first division season 1975/76, it served as the permanent home ground of CF Laguna, of which the last eight seasons since 1968 in the first division before moving to the more modern Estadio Moctezuma (later Corona).

The stadium was later taken over by Club Deportivo San Isidro . Under his direction, the dilapidated grandstands on the north and east side of the stadium were demolished and the west grandstand was reduced in size and modernized.
