Carl Wegele , also Karl Wegele (born September 28, 1859 in Würzburg , † April 17, 1930 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a medical adviser and spa doctor in Unna-Königsborn . As one of the most important specialists of his time for digestive diseases, he wrote some scientific papers.

Life

Carl Wegele's father was the historian Franz Xaver Wegele . His brother was the future professor Hans Wegele (1857–1937).

Wegele attended until 1874, the grammar school in Würzburg and studied in Würzburg medicine . He received his doctorate in medicine in 1882 with his doctoral supervisor Nikolaus Alois Geigel , the syphilis expert and head of the Medical Polyclinic, in Würzburg. Wegele was friends with the son of Alois Geigel, who later became Professor Richard Geigel , and in 1911 he dedicated the fourth edition of the publication The Therapy of Stomach and Intestinal Diseases to him .

Carl Wegele was in the military and was promoted to medical officer in 1883 . In 1890 he was retired from military service as a first-class assistant doctor in the Landwehr 1st contingent.

He was then elected to be a spa doctor on Sylt . As a result of this stay, he published Das Nordseebad Sylt in 1891 (published by F. Dröhse).

After various positions in Prague and Vienna, among others, he came to Königsborn, where he had treated stomach and intestinal diseases since 1892. From 1901 he received permission to run a health clinic in Villa Quisisana . This sanatorium was a small facility with a private pension for members of the upper class. During the Second World War , the spa was closed and a hospital and later a morgue was set up in the bathhouse .

In 1896 he was the first to publish a widely acclaimed paper on the application of X-ray technology in medicine after the discovery of X-rays .

He was a member of the Physico-Medical Society in Würzburg.
