In 1955, Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Esterer GmbH & Co. Fahrzeugaufbauten und Anlagen KG founded by Ulrich Esterer with the takeover of an Esso repair shop in Helsa . The first road tanker was produced three years later and export began in 1972. One year after Harold Esterer joined the medium-sized company in 1974, the construction of vehicles for airfield refueling began. In 1986, Ulrich Esterer handed the company over to his son Harold Esterer, who has been running it together with his daughter Julia Esterer (since 2008) to this day. In 2006 the world's first tubeless dispenser was delivered to Frankfurt am Main Airport .

Intermediate company locations in Eschwege , Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm , Stade and Neu-Ulm have meanwhile been closed again. In 2011 the company was awarded the renowned "International Forum (IF) Product Design Award 2010" .
