Estrela Negra de Bissau ( Portuguese for "Black Star of Bissau"), also EN Bissau for short , is a sports club from the Guinea-Bissau capital of Bissau . The military club is particularly known for its football section , but it also hosts cultural events.

The club welcomes its guests to the 12,000-seat Estádio Lino Correia .

history

The club was first founded in 1937 in what was then the Portuguese colony of Portuguese Guinea. After the country gained independence in 1974, the association was re-established by the Navy within the Guinea-Bissau Armed Forces (FARP) on April 5, 1975 , under the name Clube Desportivo Recreativo e Cultural the FARP . With the 1988/89 season it received its current civil name, which refers to the black star in the flag of Guinea-Bissau .

The club played several times in the first division, the Campeonato Nacional da Guiné-Bissau . Since its relegation in 2015, the club has been in Group A ( Série A ) of the second division (as of early 2018).

His qualification for the 1980 African Cup Winners 'Cup can be regarded as the greatest success : after Benfica Bissau had already qualified as a double winner for the African Cup, Estrela Negra moved up to the African Cup Winners' Cup as the inferior final of the Guinea-Bissau Cup . For financial reasons, however, the club did not take part.

Most recently (2017) the club played first in Group A ( Série A ) of the second division ( Campeonato Nacional da 2.ª Divisão ) for promotion, but only finished second, promoted to first division newcomer FC Sonaco .
