Eteri Georgijewna Tutberidze ( Russian Этери Георгиевна Тутберидзе ; born February 24, 1974 in Moscow ) is a former Russian figure skater . She is currently in charge of figure skating training for the Sambo 70 sports club in Moscow. She mainly trains figure skaters who compete individually . Her most successful students include the 2018 Olympic and 2019 world champion Alina Zagitova , the 2016 and 2017 world champion Evgenia Medvedeva and Julija Lipnitskaja , who won a gold medal in the 2014 Olympic team competition.

Career

Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze was born on February 24, 1974 as the youngest of five siblings in Moscow . She studied at the Malakhovka Sports Academy and graduated with a degree in choreography . She lived for six years in various cities in the United States, including Oklahoma City , Cincinnati , Los Angeles and San Antonio . Their daughter Diana was born on January 16, 2003 in Las Vegas .

Athletic career

Tutberidze started figure skating at the age of four and a half under the guidance of Evgenia Zelikova and later Edouard Pliner. After a vertebral fracture , she switched from running to ice dancing . She was trained by Lidia Kabanova for two years, then by Jelena Tchaikovskaya . During this time, Vyacheslav Chichekin was her partner in ice dancing. After a short change to trainer Natalja Linitschuk , Tutberidze was trained by Gennady Akkerman for three years. Until he emigrated to the USA, Alexei Kiliakov was her partner in ice dancing.

In the 1991-1992 season Tutberidze moved to coach Tatiana Tarasova , after which she ended her amateur career as an athlete. During her multi-year professional career, Nikolai Apter was her partner in figure skating.

Career as a trainer

Tutberidze began her work as a figure skating coach in San Antonio , Texas. After her return to Russia, she moved to other stations at the sports club Sambo 70 (SDUSSHOR 37) in Moscow, where she works with Sergei Dudakov and Daniil Gleichengauz .
