Ethan Stiefel (* 1973 in Tyrone , Pennsylvania ) is an US -American Ballet dancers . He holds the rank of Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theater .

Life

Ethan Stiefel began his education in Madison, Wisconsin, when he was eight. He continued his ballet training at the Milwaukee Ballet School and the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet before continuing his studies in New York at the American Ballet Theater's School of Classical Ballet and the School of American Ballet . At the age of 16 he was engaged in the Corps de ballet of the New York City Ballet (NYCB) and won a silver medal at the Prix ​​de Lausanne . In 1992, he was named New York Times for Dancer of the Year .

In 1995, just 22 years old, he was named Principal Dancer at NYCB and has danced many leading roles in choreographies for Balanchine , including A Midsummer Night's Dream , Stars and Stripes , Symphony in C , Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux and others. During his time at NYCB he also appeared in works by Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins and was guest dancer at the Royal Ballet , Mariinsky Theater and the Teatro Colón . In 1997, Stiefel moved to the neighboring American Ballet Theater as a Principal Dancer . His classic leading roles there include Afternoon of a Faun , Solor in La Bayadère , Franz in Coppélia , Albrecht in Giselle and Jean de Brienne in Raimonda, among others. He has also appeared in modern plays, including Twyla Tharp , and created numerous roles, including Black Tuesday and HereAfter (Heaven) . Stiefel played the role of Cooper Nielson in the US film Center Stage in 2000 , as well as in the sequel Center Stage 2 in 2008 and in Center Stage: On Pointe (2016).

Stiefel has been Dean of the School of Dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts since 2007 .
