history

Tyrone was founded in 1850 and was initially called Eaglesville , later Shorbsville and finally Tyrone City . The first buildings of the settlement were built at the confluence of Bald Eagle Creek and Little Juniata River. With the industrial development of the Allegheny Mountains , the community gained importance for the paper industry ; chemical companies and confectionery manufacturers also settled here . The Clairfield coal mines had a branch in the parish.

After the main line of the Pennsylvania Railroad from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh via Altoona was opened until 1849, it was not until 1880 that Tyrone got its own station for passenger traffic . In Tyrone a railway line began to Lock Heaven (near Williamsburg ) via Milesburg. There was also a network of many branch lines that led from Tyrone to various industrial plants in surrounding towns such as Philippsburg and Fairbrook . Meanwhile downgraded to the stopping point if required, an Amtrak train pair ( Pennsylvanian , New York City - Pittsburgh) currently runs daily on the route with a stop in Tyrone. There is also a connection to the Greyhound bus lines .
