The Journey to the Center of the Earth is an Icelandic - American adventure film from 2008. It uses motifs from Jules Verne 's novel of the same name . Directed by Eric Brevig . The film opened in German cinemas on March 5, 2009.
action
Trevor Anderson is a Boston volcanologist supposed to spend ten days with his 13-year-old nephew Sean while Sean's mother searches for an apartment to move to in Ottawa , Canada. When Sean's mother drops it off at Trevor's, she gives him a box with things that belonged to Max, Trevor's brother and Sean's father, who has been missing for ten years. In the box he finds, among other things, the book The Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. In it Trevor finds notes from his older brother. Trevor goes to his lab to find out more about the notes. There he realizes that he has to go to Iceland to find out more.
He's flying to Iceland with Sean. They begin by looking for another volcanologist, Sigurbjörn Ásgeirsson, and instead find his daughter Hannah, from whom they learn that the scientist has died three years earlier. It also emerges that this and Trevor's brother Max were Vernians who believed that Jules Verne's stories were true . Hannah offers to help them climb the mountain, from which data from a probe that Max had installed there is suddenly being sent again.
During the ascent of the mountain, a storm forces the three into a cave, which collapses and takes them prisoner. The group explores the cave to find an exit and they realize that it is an abandoned mine. Deep inside the mine, they find a volcanic chimney full of precious stones. While admiring the gemstones, they notice that the floor on which they stand is made of wafer-thin muscovite . Their weight causes the bottom to collapse, and the group falls (about two minutes) through the volcanic chimney, is slowed down by a natural water slide, and ends up in an underground lake. You will see there that the center of the earth is actually, as described by Jules Verne, “a world within our world”. You set out to explore this world.
Along the way, you will find evidence that someone was there 100 years before. Trevor realizes that the instruments found belonged to Professor Lidenbrock, one of the protagonists in Jules Verne's novel, and that the events described in the book correspond to reality. They also find items from Trevor's brother Max. While Trevor and Sean sift through the found items, Hannah wanders around and discovers Max's remains. They bury him on the beach of the subterranean ocean. Trevor reads a letter to Sean found in Max's diary. They say goodbye to Max and hug.
Trevor realizes that they need to find a geyser that can bring them back to the surface, but which is on the other side of the ocean. Otherwise, the temperature soaring up to 200 ° F (~ 93 ° C) will make it impossible for them to survive. You must reach the geyser in 48 hours or all of the water that can form the geyser will have evaporated.
You will cross the subterranean ocean on a self-made raft that is pulled by a stunt kite-like sail that is later released from the raft. In doing so, Sean is carried away by the sail and separated from the adults. When he finds himself on the other bank, he looks for Trevor and Hannah, crosses a path made of floating magnetic stones, is pursued by a predatory dinosaur and is saved by Trevor at the last second.
At the underground river, Hannah is waiting for her with a raft made from a dinosaur skull. However, the river dries up and they are stuck in a volcanic vent. After Trevor discovers a reservoir of water behind a wall of the chimney and breaks it, the water rushes into the lava lake below. The steam pressure lets them shoot with the raft through the volcanic vent. Eventually they are catapulted out of Vesuvius . In a rapid drive down the slopes of Vesuvius, they destroy the vineyard of an old Italian. Sean gives him a diamond that he found at the very beginning on the floor of the volcanic chimney. Trevor finds he has a lot more of it in his backpack, and he uses the diamonds to fund his brother's lab. As the adventure progresses, Hannah and Trevor gradually grow closer.
The film ends on the last day of Sean's visit to Trevor (who now apparently lives with Hannah). When Sean the new home of the two leaves, which was bought with some of the diamonds, took Sean from the gemstone cave, Trevor Sean is a copy of the book Atlantis , the antediluvian world of Ignatius Donnelly , with the intent that they might while Sean See you again for Christmas holidays and experience new adventures.
