Anita Briem (born May 29, 1982 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic musician and actress who, in addition to her work at the theater, became internationally known through the film The Nun (La Monja) .

life and work

Anita Briem was born as the daughter of the musician Gunnlaugur Briem , the drummer of the Icelandic music group Mezzoforte , and the singer Erna Þórarinsdóttir in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she also spent her childhood. At the age of nine, she was already acting as Ida in Astrid Lindgren's Michel from Lönneberga at the National Theater of Iceland in Reykjavík. As a child star, she took part in three other stage productions, while she also played in several television productions, short films and commercials . Anita Briem learned to use weapons and trained in hand-to-hand combat as a child.

At the age of 16, Anita Briem moved to London where she trained as an actor. At the age of 19 she was accepted at the traditional London drama school Royal Academy of Dramatic Art , where she graduated in 2004. After completing her studies, she worked on the London stage before she was offered a leading role in the horror film The Nun in 2004. She also had guest appearances on television series such as Doctor Who and The Evidence .

She appeared in the second season of The Tudors as Jane Seymour , Henry's third wife . She starred with Brendan Fraser in the 2008 movie The Journey to the Center of the Earth . In 2011 she starred alongside Brandon Routh in Dylan Dog: Dead of Night , as well as in Elevator and Queen of Hearts .

Anita Briem speaks fluent English as well as Danish and German . She is married to director Dean Paraskevopoulos .
