The Nun (dt .: The nun ) is a Spanish horror film from 2005, for Luis De La Madrid was directing for the first time. US film producer Brian Yuzna is responsible for the film, and he directed the film in the Barcelona area with his Spanish production company Fantastic Factory .

action

A group of young girls in a strict Catholic boarding school suffers from a tyrannical nun (more precisely a religious sister ) who one day disappears without a trace. Years later, the boarding school is closed and it falls into disrepair as nobody is taking care of the building. About 17 years later, one of the now adult women is brutally murdered. Eva, the daughter of the murdered woman, sees a ghost in the form of a nun at the scene of the crime and henceforth believes in a connection between what she saw at the scene and her mother's youth.

After more former schoolgirls mysteriously die, Eva decides to fly to Spain with a few friends to see the closed boarding school. On the side she wants to meet the other women who were attending boarding school at the time. When the group enters the building, the nun's ghost is also waiting for them and one after the other murders all the former students according to a certain ritual. Later, the decimated group around Eva learns the reason for the nun's bloodlust: the strict religious sister was murdered by her students when they surprised her during a ritual cleansing of a pregnant student. As a devout nun, she wanted to wash the underage schoolgirl - Eva's mother - of her sins, but was overwhelmed and murdered by the crowd of girls. The murder went unpunished at the time, so it is a campaign of revenge.

After Ursula, the nun's name, has killed all of the former schoolgirls, Eva kills her with an arrow through her chest at the end of the film. When the arrow hits Ursula, Eva is also killed. It turns out that Eva and Ursula are practically one person, so that Eva was directed by Ursula. The campaign of revenge ends with the death of both women.

Reviews

"Unrestrained plagiarism horror film about the nonsensical figure of a 'killer nun'."

"The chicly filmed horror thriller from the Spanish production company of 'Re-Animator' producer Brian Yuzna shines with great special effects performances by the ghost nun, but disappoints with a badly stilted ending."

Production notes

The Nun is the seventh film production by the film production company Fantastic Factory , founded by Brian Yuzna and Julio Fernández in 2000 , which mainly makes genre films. Fantastic Factory was founded with the aim of producing films at “the usual level, but for a fraction of the previous cost”. Local directors and producers are therefore offered the opportunity to realize their works.

The idea for the film came from director Jaume Balagueró , who previously filmed projects like Darkness and wrote the screenplay for La Monja together with the still relatively unknown Manu Diez . Luis De La Madrid was able to be engaged as a director , who appeals to a younger audience with his first work and the international cast. In national as well as international reviews one spoke of a "teen horror film".
