General structure of an ethynyl group, which is marked blue here . The radical R represents an aliphatic , cyclic or aromatic radical or a hydrogen atom ( acetylene ). |
The ethynyl group (H – C≡C–) - also obsolete ethynyl group - is a functional group in organic chemistry and is an ethyne molecule from which a hydrogen atom has been removed. The introduction of an ethynyl group into organic chemical compounds by means of acetylidene ( Nef reaction ) is called ethynylation . The ethynylation of ketones produces geminal ethynyl alcohols.
The German name acetylenyl group is no longer in use today due to the Anglicisation of the technical language and can only be found in old descriptions of experiments.
