Etonogestrel is a synthetic analog from the progestin group .

It is used for birth control. Forms of application are the contraceptive stick (Nexplanon, Implanon) and the contraceptive ring (NuvaRing, Circlet). It inhibits ovulation and causes changes in the mucus of the cervix .
