description

Eucalyptus foecunda

Appearance and leaf

Eucalyptus foecunda grows in the form of the mallee - eucalyptus , this is a growth form that is more shrub -shaped than tree-shaped , there are usually several trunks that form a lignotuber ; or tree that reaches heights of up to 5 meters. The bark is smooth and gray or red-brown all over the tree. It can also be chunky at the lower parts of the trunk. There are no oil glands in the marrow or in the bark.

In Eucalyptus foecunda is Heterophyllie ago. On middle-aged specimens, the opposite, sitting leaves are elliptical, straight, with a serrated edge, floured blue-green or frosted. The green leaves of the same color on the top and bottom of adult specimens are narrow-lanceolate or lanceolate, relatively thick, straight, taper towards the base of the blades and have a pointed or blunt upper end. The side nerves, which are barely recognizable, extend from the median nerve at an obtuse angle. The cotyledons ( cotyledons ) are divided into two parts.

Inflorescence and flower

Terminally or laterally on an inflorescence stem with a round pedicel in cross section, there are about eleven together in a simple inflorescence . The spindle-shaped flower buds are not floured or frosted blue-green. The sepals form a calyptra that falls off early. The smooth calyptra is conical, twice as long as the smooth flower cup (hypanthium) and as wide as this. The flowers are creamy white. The flowering period is August or January to February.

fruit

The fruit is spherical or hemispherical. The disc is indented or flat, the fruit compartments stick out.

Occurrence

The natural range of Eucalyptus foecunda is the southern part of the west coast of Western Australia . Occasionally it occurs on the south coast of Western Australia, in South Australia and in New South Wales .

Eucalyptus foecunda grows preferentially on white, gray, yellow, brown, orange or red sand over limestone as well as on sand dunes, sand plains, limestone elevations, rocks and hills and on roadsides.
