Euclemensia is a genus of butterflies from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).
features
The head of the butterfly is smoothly scaled. The antennae are 3/5 to 3/4 as long as the forewings. The labial palps are bent back, have smooth scales and extend to the vertex (apex) or beyond. The fore wings are lanceolate and have raised scaly spots. The hind wings are as wide as the fore wings and taper from the middle of the wing. The abdomen tapers to a point.
The genital fittings of the males are slightly asymmetrical. The brachia are long and wide and taper to a point. The blades are long and slender and slightly curved. The Valvellae are long and narrow and taper to a point. The vinculum is wide and has no saccus. The aedeagus is long, straight or curved, and has one or two large cornuti.
In females, the apophyses posteriores are longer than the apophyses anteriores . The ostium is wide and funnel-shaped. The ductus bursae is short and has a heavily sclerotized antrum . The corpus bursae is divided into two differently sized parts and has no signa.
distribution
The representatives of the genus Euclemensia are native to the Holarctic and the Neotropic .
biology
The caterpillars of the American species are parasitoids and develop in the females of the genus Kermes .
Systematics
In Europe the genus is only represented by one species ( E. woodiella ), which is considered to be extinct. There are three species native to North America .
