Euclemensia woodiella is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of about 17 millimeters. The head shines bronze-brown and is tinted green. The antennae are dark brown and have a slightly purple sheen. In Subapikalbereich are about 9 white segments. Thorax and tegulae shine bronze-brown and have a greenish tint. The front wings have a light orange basic color, at the base of the Costa loader and the inner edge of the wing they are dark brown. There is a club-shaped spot on the Costa loader. A dark brown costal line runs from the middle of the Costa loader up to 4/5 of the fore wing length. In the direction of the wing base it is widest and encloses a small orange subcostal spot here. The inner edge of the wing is dark brown from the first third to the apex , an orange band interrupts this area behind the middle. A yellow-orange Costa line is at 4/5 of the length of the Costa loader. The drawing includes four hump-like, bluish or slightly purple shiny spots. The first is at the distal end of the club-shaped spot. The second and third spots are on both sides of the anal fold on the basal edge of the dark brown area on the inner wing of the wing. The fourth and smallest spot is below the orange subcostal spot. A dark, purple and greenish shimmering narrow line runs along the anal fold. It begins distally at the two hump-like spots on the dark brown area of ​​the wing inner edge and extends to the wing outer edge. The fringed scales are gray-brown. The hind wings shimmer gray-brown and have an orange sheen.

The genital fittings of the males are slightly asymmetrical. The brachia are long and wide and taper distally. The blades are long and slender and slightly curved. The valvellae are long and slender and taper distally. The vinculum is wide and has no saccus. The aedeagus is curved and has two cornuti.

The female genital fittings are unknown.

Euclemensia woodiella is only known from the Kersal Moor near Manchester in England . The species has not been recorded since 1829 and is believed to have died out.

biology

Nothing is known about the way of life of the species. It is believed that the caterpillars , like the two related species native to North America, parasitize on scale insects of the genus Kermes . The moths were collected in mid-June.
