The Euconulinae are a worm - subfamily from the subordination of terrestrial snails (gastropod).
features
The right-hand wound housings are usually more or less flattened, conical. One genus ( Sabalimax ) has become a half- slug . There are usually 3 to 7 turns. The last turn is rounded or with a slight angle. The shell is thin and translucent. Radial or spiral stiffeners can be more or less pronounced on the surface of the housing. The surface is therefore highly glossy or rather matt and / or silky glossy. The navel is very small or closed.
In the male genital tract, the prostate lies directly against the fallopian tube. The spermatic duct (vas deferens) penetrates the apical part of the small or short epiphallus, which is separated from the penis by a simple constriction. In some species, a small blind sac (caecum) attaches to the penis. The penile retractor muscle attaches to the epiphallus (just before the transition to the penis) or to the apical part of the penis. The epiphallus, penis and caecum are connected by a membrane. The free fallopian tube has a glandular section. The sperm library is often very small or may even be absent.
differences
The subfamily Euconulinae differs from the other subfamily Microcystinae by the prostate, which lies directly next to the fallopian tube, the greatly reduced (or missing) spermathec, the epiphallus is connected to the penis by a membrane, and the caecum (blind sac), if present, sits near the base of the penis.
Geographical distribution and habitat
The subfamily is common worldwide. The taxa are mostly oviparous , rarely ovoviviparous .
Taxonomy
The taxon was established in 1928 by Horace Burrington Baker . It is the nominate subfamily of the Kegelchen family (Euconulidae).
