Eugénie Kuffler

Eugénie Kuffler (* 1949 in Baltimore ) is an American composer, flautist and dancer.

Kuffler, who was born to the neurobiologist Stephen W. Kuffler , studied music and dance at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore (1956–59) and at the New England Conservatory in Boston (1959–66) and played the flute in the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra . In 1967 she moved to Paris. Here she studied composition with Nadia Boulanger and Max Deutsch as well as with Henri Dutilleux at the École Normale de Musique and flute with Gaston Crunelle at the Conservatoire de Paris until 1971 .

From 1973 to 1975 she attended the class of Pierre Schaeffer and Guy Reibel at the Groupe de recherches musicales . She later studied classical singing with Bernadette Val (1988–92), Yves Müller and Sophie Boulin (1994) and Afro-Cuban dance with Oscar Hernandez and Daniela Giacone (1999).

From 1967 to 1973 Kuffler was a member of the interpreter and composer group GERM, with which she concerts a. a. in London, Vienna, Rotterdam and Paris. In 1973 she founded the avant-garde cabaret duet 010 with Philippe Drogoz . a. performed in Paris, Avignon, Marseille, New York and San Francisco. In addition, she presented the program Qui dit Quoi à Qui? On Radio France Musique from 1977-78 .

Since 1980 Kuffler has realized programs for Radio France Culture and has appeared with solo programs at the Biennale de Paris , the Women's Weeks in Vienna and Hamburg, the Festival de Performance in Lyon and the Musica Strasbourg .

She became a member of the women's improvisation ensemble Hot Chills and played in the Woods Hole Folk Orchestra of Cape Cod during the summer . Between 1999 and 2008 she produced nine plays in Cuba with the Conexión Habana , a dance, music and drama ensemble .
