Gaston Crunelle
Gaston Crunelle (born August 18, 1898 in Douai , † January 12, 1990 in Paris ) was a French flautist and music teacher .
Life
Crunelle studied at the Paris Conservatory with Edouard Lafleurance , Adolphe Hennebains and Philippe Gaubert and won a First Prize there in 1920. In the same year he succeeded Rene Le Roy in the Quintette instrumental de Paris . From 1933 he was principal flutist in the Orchester Pasdeloup (until 1942) and in the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique . He gave the world premiere of André Jolivet's Chants de Linos , and composers such as Henri Dutilleux , Pierre Sancan and Olivier Messiaen ( Le merle noir ) dedicated works to him.
From 1941 to 1969 Crunelle taught flute at the Paris Conservatory. In addition to Jean-Pierre Rampal , who succeeded him in 1969, his students include James Galway , Maxence Larrieu , Edward Beckett , Michel Debost , Jacques Delacôte , Christian Chéret , Guy Cottin , Marc Honorat , Benoit Trémolières , Francis Loriaux , Maurice Pruvot , Pierre Séchet , Gérald Jemain , Jean-Claude Gérard and Gail Greamstead .
