Eugene Dobrogeanu (1942)

Eugen Dobrogeanu (born October 17, 1913 in Bucharest , † January 18, 1992 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian officer ( retired colonel ) the first bibliographer of Romanian criminology and an active participant in Operation Autonomous .

Career

After completing primary school in 1925, Eugen Dobrogeanu attended Gheorghe Șincai grammar school in Bucharest and graduated from university in 1932. In the same year he was accepted into the gendarmerie officer school, which he graduated in 1935. He then worked as a trainer at the Gendarmerie NCO School in Focşani , where he held lectures on police and forensic technology until 1940.

A licentiate in law and an oral doctorate in economic policy, Eugen Dobrogeanu has published numerous studies on police engineering, forensic science and applied criminology. In his work "The criminal technology in the Romanian bibliography" (Die Moderne Polizei, Focsani 1940) he raised a. a. the merits of Professors Mina and Nicolae Minovici, who laid the foundation of Romanian forensic medicine through their research in the field of forensic medicine in Bucharest.

At the beginning of 1941, Eugen Dobrogeanu was transferred to the Gendarmerie Inspectorate in Bucharest, where he was appointed head of the Department for the Persecution of the Legionnaires' Movement in Section 2. In this function he wrote the daily information report, in which he summarized the gendarmerie reports from all over the country.

In the period 1943-1944 Eugen Dobrogeanu was directly involved as a major in the "Operation Autonomous" under the command of General Constantin Tobescu. As a member of the military guard, he was used to guard the three British officers Alfred Gardyne De Chastelain, Ivor Porter and Silviu Metianu. They were taken prisoner as parachutists in Romania.

Despite all the dangers, Eugene Dobrogeanu maintained friendly relations with the prisoners, gave them assistance and provided them with information on daily events. Finally, he even helped the British officers with the transmission of messages that would help them escape. Eugen Dobrogeanu's assignment to the Eastern Front in Odessa thwarted the escape plans.

Between April 1946 and March 1948 Eugen Dobrogeanu worked as a deputy commander and lecturer at the gendarmerie officers' school. Subsequently, he was recalled as deputy director of the security office and head of the secret service for the security of the state capital, where he was active in the uncovering of legionary organizations and the fight against white-collar crime.

From September 1948 to January 1949, Eugen Dobrogeanu was a member of the organizing committee of the Romanian militia after the gendarmerie was dissolved. He was then assigned to the General Directorate of the Militia as Director of the Public Security and Order Department and Head of the Secretariat and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

On March 31, 1951, Eugen Dobrogeanu was arrested for “crimes and intense activity against the working class and revolutionary movement”. After almost 5 years of investigation, he was acquitted in judgment No. 114/1956 and declared innocent, with all penalties and acts reversed.

After his release from prison, Eugen Dobrogeanu first worked as a laborer in a service company in Bucharest, then as an employee at the foreign trade company "Romtrans" in Bucharest, from where he retired.

After the Romanian Revolution in 1989 , Eugen Dobrogeanu was rehabilitated and made Colonel a. D. promoted. He died on January 18, 1992.
