Eugen Häßler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eugen Häßler (* 1909 ; † 1976 ) was a German wrestler.

In Tuttlingen he started wrestling and weightlifting as a teenager in 1920 and quickly developed into an excellent athlete. Soon he specialized entirely in wrestling and achieved initial successes at the regional level. At the age of 19 he was the first German runner-up in the Greco-Roman style . By the mid-1930s, he made it onto the podium six times at the German championships, but he was denied a German championship title. Jean Földeák , Oswald Möchel and Fritz Schäfer , all great wrestlers of the international format of those years, blocked his way.

Eugen Häßler was a farmer on the Maiental estate and a committed local politician. For many years he also ran the ASV Tuttlingen heavy athletics club , for which he successfully competed until he was 42.
