Eugen Müllendorff

Eugen Müllendorff (born July 3, 1855 in Steinau an der Oder , † February 5, 1934 in Berlin ) was a German engineer , writer and influential Freemason .

Life

After attending the Friedrichsgymnasium in Breslau , Müllendorff studied at the universities of Breslau and Leipzig as well as in Dresden and Charlottenburg . With a dissertation on differential equations, he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . This was followed by a long study visit to Turkey , which later resulted in his main literary work with the translation of the rascals of Naszr-ed-din .

After his return to Germany, he first worked as an editor for the magazine Blätter für Elektrotechnik und Bauwesen in Cologne. He later worked in Berlin as a judicial expert for electrical engineering. In 1904 he became a member of the patent office as such . At the same time he was a member of the Reich Federation of Sworn Experts and the Association of Consulting Engineers . He has also written numerous treatises on electrical engineering and pedagogy in various specialist journals.

Freemasonry

Müllendorff was a member of the Berlin Johannisloge To the three golden keys and from 1916 to 1931 State Grand Master of the Great State Lodge of the Freemasons of Germany . He exerted a great influence on the development of Freemasonry in Germany after the First World War. As an exponent of old Prussian Freemasonry, he emphasized the standpoint of love for the fatherland while distancing himself from pacifist ideas. Under his leadership, the Grand State Lodge separated itself from the rest of German Freemasonry and added the additional designation of the German-Christian Order . - His half-length portrait as state grandmaster was captured on a bronze medal by H. Wernicke.

Müllendorff's grave is located in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
