Eugen Schneider (* 1880 in Ennetbaden ; † May 26, 1953 ) was a Swiss architect and mayor and later a politician for the Free Democratic Party in the Grand Council . He was also involved in numerous other organizations. He worked in the Art Nouveau era and stylistically belongs to the Heimatschutz architecture called Heimatstil .

education and profession

Eugen Schneider learned the trade as a draftsman in Baden with Robert Moser . He was also influenced by his son Karl Mosers , who was 20 years older than him, and who became known beyond the borders of Switzerland with his epoch-making buildings . Schneider then worked with Medard Sidler (1878–1940) until 1919, but then gave up this community. Originally from Lucerne , Sidler had lived in Baden since 1905 and later moved to Wettingen .

Eugen Schneider is considered a specialist in remodeling and renovation. In addition, he worked for many builders and also for the public sector. He was particularly active in his home parish. Many community and school buildings come from him. He also designed the new headquarters of Obwaldner Kantonalbank in Sarnen .

Private

Schneider was married and had two daughters and a son. He is described as a “jovial parish father” who “cultivated a primordial cosiness”. In addition to his political activities, he was also the fire brigade commander, president of the Baden branch of the Aargauische Hypothekenbank and a member of the supervisory committee of the Wettingen teacher training college .
