Robert Moser (architect)

Robert Moser (born September 11, 1833 in Baden AG ; † December 5, 1901 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect of historicism .

Life

The son of the Baden stone setter and later master builder Johann Moser and Anna born. After attending secondary school in Aarau, Küfer studied architecture at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic , with Heinrich Hübsch and Friedrich Eisenlohr , among others . While still a student, he won the architectural competition for the district school in his hometown, which he was able to build in 1855–57 after having been employed by Alfred Rychner in Neuchâtel .

Moser then went on study trips to France, Belgium and Italy from 1858–59. During these trips he had contact with Maximilian Nohl and Wilhelm Lübke .

After returning with his own office in Baden, he mainly built public buildings, including the Kursaal (1871–75), several penal institutions (Basel 1860–64, Lenzburg 1864–66, Neuenburg 1868–70) and the hospital in Aarau ( 1881-87). For the penal institutions, Moser was awarded a bronze medal at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876 .

His main work was the construction of the Kurhaus in Baden, which was carried out from 1871 to 1875 .

In the service of the Swiss Society for the Preservation of Historical Art Monuments, he restored a. a. the monastery church in Königsfelden and the collegiate church in Bad Zurzach .

His son Karl Moser was also an architect.
