Argovia (book series)
Argovia is the title of the yearbook of the Historical Society of the Canton of Aargau , which has been published annually since 1860 . It usually contains one or more articles and monographs on a topic from the history of the canton of Aargau , as well as the Society's annual report and the bibliography from the previous year.
In previous years, individual contributions could comprise several hundred pages; some of them were later published as independent books. Furthermore, there are several articles, which are spread over several issues due to their size. As a rule, the authors are not laypeople, but rather recognized authors in their specialist field. Articles by cantonal archaeologists often appear in Argovia, which makes it an important reference work for archaeologists. The best-known authors include Federal Councilors Friedrich Frey-Herosé and Emil Welti , the politician and railway manager Plazid Weissenbach, and the economic historian Hektor Ammann .
