Karl Rudolf Tanner

Karl Rudolf Tanner (born June 20, 1794 in Aarau ; † July 8, 1849 there ) was a Swiss lawyer, poet and politician.

biography

Karl Rudolf Tanner was born in Aarau in 1794 as the son of the reformed pastor Johann Rudolf Tanner. After attending the Aarau Cantonal School , he studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen . During his studies in 1814 he became a member of the Teutonia Heidelberg fraternity . He received his doctorate in 1817 and opened a law firm in Aarau. In 1825 he became a member of the Aarau District Court and in 1826 the governor, but resigned two years later in protest against the political system of the Restoration .

After the Freiämtersturm of 1830 Tanner became a member of the Constitutional Council , the following year a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau and in 1833 President of the Supreme Court. In the years 1832 and 1833 he represented the canton of Aargau as an emissary at the agenda . As one of the most radical politicians of his time, he vehemently advocated the abolition of the Aargau monasteries and the suppression of the Sonderbund . After the founding of the Swiss federal state in 1848, he was elected to the National Council in the first parliamentary elections, but died of heart disease after his second session.

Tanner's poems, little songs and pictures, are in the tradition of the Swabian school of poets .
