Uri Kaufmann (also: Robert Uri Kaufmann and Uri Robert Kaufmann ; born July 3, 1957 in Zofingen ) is a Swiss historian and author. He has been the head of the Old Synagogue in Essen since September 2011 .

Life

Uri Kaufmann studied history from 1977 to 1983 at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and received his doctorate in 1987 from the University of Zurich . He was a research assistant at the University for Jewish Studies in Heidelberg , lecturer at the Pedagogical University Heidelberg and developed concepts for the Jewish Museum Berlin . Since September 1, 2011 he has been the director of the Old Synagogue in Essen .
