Eugenio Gatto (born October 22, 1911 in Zenson di Piave , Treviso province ; † January 17, 1981 in Venice ) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC) who was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) between 1948 and 1963 several times minister in various governments. Later he was a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) from 1963 to 1976 .

Life

After attending school, Gatto studied law and then worked as a lawyer . Towards the end of the Second World War he fought in the Resistenza . In the elections of April 18, 1948 , he was elected for the first time for the Democrazia Cristiana (DC) as a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) and represented the constituency of Venezia until May 15, 1963 . During the first legislative period he was initially a member of the Interior Committee between June 1948 and July 1951 and at the same time a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Food from January 1950 to June 1953. During the second legislative period he was a member of the Transport Committee between July 1953 and June 1958 and again a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Food from July 1954 to June 1955.

On July 3, 1958 Gatto was of Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Industry and Trade ( Sottosegretario di Stato all'Industria e Commercio ) in its second cabinet for the first time appointed to a government position and practiced this in the subsequent second Cabinet Segni to 25 March 1960 from. In the third and fourth Fanfani cabinets and in the first Leone cabinet , he served between July 28, 1960 and December 3, 1963 as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of State Participations ( Sottosegretario di Stato alle Partecipazioni Statali ). He was also a member of the Committee on Budget and State Participation between June 1958 and June 1960, and from July 1960 to June 1961 both a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Judiciary Committee. He was also a member of the Labor and Social Insurance Committee from July 1960 to May 1960.

In the elections of April 28, 1963 , Gatto was elected for the DC to a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) and represented the interests of the Veneto region until July 4, 1976 . During this time between July 1963 and June 1968 was a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Justice and Permits. In the second and third Cabinet Moro he held on 25 July 1964 to 23 June 1968, the capacity as Under Secretary in the Ministry of the Treasury ( Sottosegretario di Stato per il Tesoro ).
