Eun Yee You (* 20th century in South Korea ) is a South Korean opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Education

She began her vocal studies at Yonsei University in Seoul . She then continued her vocal studies in Europe at the Accademia di Canto “Tito Gobbi” in Pavia (Italy), at the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan and at the Conservatoire de Genève .

First roles

From 1999 she was a member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich. During this time she was used as an apprentice at the Zurich Opera House in a few smaller roles. In Zurich she sang Frasquita in “ Carmen ” , the Sandman in “ Hansel and Gretel” and Papagena in The Magic Flute .

Coloratura soprano in Leipzig

She has been a permanent member of the Leipzig Opera since the 2001/02 season . Here she worked on the major roles in the field of coloratura soprano and the coloratura soubrette .

Her most important roles in Leipzig initially included: Gilda in “ Rigoletto ” in the 2002/03 season, Lady Harriet in “ Martha ” and Giulietta in “I Capuleti ei Montecchi” in the 2003/04 season, Amina in “ La sonnambula ” in in the 2004/05 season, Oscar in “ Un ballo in maschera ” and Sophie in “ Der Rosenkavalier ” in the 2005/06 season and Adina in “ L'elisir d'amore ” in the 2006/07 season.

The ballet choreographed by Uwe Scholz based on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Great Mass , in which she can be heard as a soloist, was broadcast live in 11 countries as part of the Mozart Year.

Guest engagements took Eun Yee You in 2005/06 to the Theater Basel as Gilda and as Sophie to the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. At the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris she took on the Waldvogel in “ Siegfried ” , and the title role in La sonnambula at the Deutsche Oper Berlin . In addition, she sang in " Ilertrico " at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse.

In the 2008/09 season she sang the role of Pamina in The Magic Flute for the first time in Leipzig , thus carefully expanding her subject to include the lyric soprano.
