Euphemus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Euphemos ( Greek  Εὔφημος ) is a figure from Greek mythology . He was the son of Poseidon and the Oceanid Europa and consort of the sister of Heracles , Laonome .

Euphemos had the gift of walking in the sea from his father and took part in the Argonauts' procession. When the heroes came to the Triton Sea, Triton gave him a clod of land, and Medea prophesied that if he threw it into the entrance to Hades on the Tanaron, his descendants in the fourth tier would become rulers of Libya . Since the floe was lost on the island of Thera , his descendants first had to occupy this island, from which Battos, his descendant in the 17th family, founded Cyrene in Libya. Pindar used the myth to glorify the victory of Arkesilaos of Cyrene.
