Euphorbia Abdelkuri is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia abdelkuri forms dense shrubs that branch out from the base and reach heights of up to 1 m. Their upright branches measure 4 to 8 cm in diameter. Fresh shoots are gray-pink, but later turn green. Their surface has a wrinkled texture that is reminiscent of a coating of molten wax. The shoots are weakly segmented and five- to seven-sided in cross section. The branches are dentate and thornless and leafless. On them there are little raised conical warts , which are arranged in five indistinct rows. The milky juice is yellowish.
The sessile, yellowish-green cyathia have a diameter of about 5 mm. The fruits are bluntly lobed and have a diameter of about 8 mm.
Systematics, distribution and endangerment
Euphorbia abdelkuri is endemic to the Yemeni island of Abd al-Kuri near Socotra, after which the species is named. There it grows on limestone. The first description was published in 1903 by Isaac Bayley Balfour .
