Euphorbia berotica is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia berotica forms bushes with strong branching up to a height of 75 centimeters. The root resembles a rhizome . The woody shoots are 2.5 to 5 millimeters thick and have slightly raised leaf scars. The succulent leaves are linear-egg-shaped and are up to 30 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide. They are short-lived.

The cyathia are in two to five-rayed umbels, with the rays up to 1 centimeter long. Bracts up to 8.5 millimeters long and 4.5 millimeters wide are formed on the inflorescences. The cyathia are up to 7 millimeters in size. Four or five round nectar glands are formed on the central cyathium . They stand individually and are colored yellow. The bluntly lobed fruit grows up to about 5 millimeters in size and stands on a stalk that is bent back and up to 7 millimeters long. The egg-shaped seed is provided with flat warts and is 3 millimeters long and 2.25 millimeters wide. He has a caruncula .

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia berotica is common in southern Angola in the Moçâmedes area . The species is only known from where it was found.

The species was first described in 1912 by Nicholas Edward Brown . A synonym is Tirucallia berotica (NEBr.) PVHeath (1996).
