Euphorbia burmannii is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia burmannii forms bushes up to 70 centimeters in height and when climbing up to 2 meters in height. The dioecious plants form a rich branch. The individual shoots are about 4 millimeters thick. Short-lived leaves with a length of up to 3 millimeters are formed. The glandular stipules are clearly visible, reddish in color and remain on the plant for a long time.
The inflorescence consists of terminal and axillary cymes , which are bifurcated two to three times. They stand in three-rayed umbels, with each ray being up to 2.5 centimeters long. The tiny bracts are broadly ovate. The very small cyathia reach up to 3.5 millimeters in diameter and are covered with downy hairs. The nectar glands are elongated. The bluntly lobed fruit is 3.5 millimeters in size and is also covered with very small downy hairs. It stands on a handle about 3 millimeters long. The elongated seeds are 2 millimeters in size and are somewhat square. The surface is covered with warts.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia burmannii is common in the South African provinces of the North Cape , Western Cape and Eastern Cape .
The species was first described in 1860 by Johann Friedrich Klotzsch and Christian August Friedrich Garcke as Arthrothamnus burmannii . In 1862, Pierre Edmond Boissier placed the species in the genus Euphorbia . Further synonyms for this species are Tirucallia burmannii (Klotzsch) PVHeath (1996), Euphorbia viminalis Burmann f. (1768) and Euphorbia biglandulosa Willd. (1813).
