Euphorbia cactus is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia cactus forms shrubs up to 1 meter high, which branch out from the base. The three to five-edged shoots are 5 to 10 centimeters thick and are divided into egg-shaped sections by constrictions. On the edges, there are bulky teeth at a distance of up to 1.5 centimeters from one another. The thorn shields that have grown together form a 5 millimeter wide horn rim. The thick thorns are up to 2 centimeters long. In addition to the approximately 2 millimeter large stipule spines, further thorns up to 7 millimeters long are formed on both sides of the inflorescences.
The inflorescence consists of three simple cymes that stand in a horizontal line and are almost sessile. The cyathia reach about 9 millimeters in diameter. The elliptical nectar glands are colored yellow and butt against each other. The spherical fruit is sitting and is about 7 millimeters tall. It contains the seeds, about 3 millimeters in size, which are spherical and have a smooth surface.
