Euphorbia consobrina is a species of plant from the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia consobrina forms many branched shrubs up to 1 meter, sometimes up to 2 meters in height, which are spreading . The terminal branches reach a diameter of 5 millimeters and have thickened leaf scars. The lanceolate leaves are up to 35 millimeters long and 5 millimeters wide. They are sitting and only stay on the plant for a short time.

The inflorescence consists of cyathia , which are in two- to five-rayed umbels. The rays of the umbels are up to 6 millimeters long and they have a central, seated male cyathium. The cyathia reach 6.5 millimeters in diameter. Four elliptical nectar glands are formed, five in the central cyathium , which are reddish in color and stand individually. The clearly lobed fruits are about 5 millimeters in size and stand on a stalk that is bent back and up to 6 millimeters long. They contain the egg-shaped seed, which is 2.75 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide. It is covered with very small warts and has an appendage .

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia consobrina is widespread on the Arabian Peninsula , in Sudan and as far as the east of Ethiopia and Somalia on limestone in open bushland at altitudes of up to 2135 meters.

The species was first described in 1911 by Nicholas Edward Brown . A synonym for this species is Euphorbia nubica var. Consobrina (NEBr.) Hadidi (1978).
