description

The succulent Euphorbia dawei grows as a tree with spread branches and reaches a height of about 15 meters. The two to three-edged branches are 4 to 10 centimeters wide and are divided into 5 to 40 centimeters long sections by constrictions. The winged edges are provided with bulged teeth at a distance of 1 to 2.5 centimeters from each other. The triangular thorn shields are 5 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide. Spines 2 to 6 millimeters long and very small stipple spines are formed. The obovate leaves are up to 6 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. They remain on young shoots for a long time.

The inflorescence is composed of three to seven, often simple cymes and stands on a 3 to 4 millimeter long stalk. The cyathia reach a diameter of 6.5 millimeters. The elliptical nectar glands almost collide and are yellow-green in color. The ovary is surrounded by a flower envelope , which is composed of five to nine short tips. The almost spherical to bluntly lobed and reddish colored fruit is about 7 millimeters long and 10 millimeters wide. It stands on a curved stem that is up to 10 millimeters long. The approximately spherical seed is 4.5 millimeters in size and has a smooth surface.

Euphorbia dawei is distributed in the east of Zaire , in the west of Uganda , in the northwest of Tanzania , in Burundi and in Rwanda in deciduous forest areas at altitudes of 800 to 1300 meters.
