Euronav
Euronav is an international shipping company founded in 2004 and headquartered in Antwerp , focusing on the transport of oil by ship. The company owns a fleet of large oil tankers . It also manages third-party tankers. It is the successor to the European Navigation Company Ltd. Euronav (as of 2013) is 37.5 percent owned by Marc Saverys and his sister Virginie.
Fleet management
The fleet management is operated by three Euronav subsidiaries: Euronav Ship Management SA and Euronav SAS (both French companies with headquarters in Nantes and one seat in Antwerp; they both belong to 100% Euronav) and Euronav Ship Management (Hellas) Ltd. based in Piraeus . Euronav tankers (as of mid-2013) are flying the Belgian, Greek and French flags .
Most of the Euronav supertankers ( VLCC ) are operated in the Tankers International Pool . Pools serve to distribute the risk of a ship not being rented out among the pool participants.
In January 2014, Euronav bought 15 VLCC tankers from Maersk subsidiary Maersk Tankers Singapore for $ 980 million (the equivalent of EUR 720 million at the time of purchase). The number of Euronav ships thus rose to almost 50. The ships had an average age of four years at the time of purchase.
CEO is Paddy Rodgers, COO is Alex Staring, CFO is Hugo De Stoop. In 2013 the company had 1,700 employees; 300 to 400 are to be added in the course of the takeover of the Maersk tankers.
