European alliance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Alliance is a political group in the European Committee of the Regions , the assembly of regional and local representatives of the European Union (EU). It represents regionalist or decentralized positions. It mainly includes members of the European Free Alliance (EFA) and independent local politicians, but there are also members of green or nationalist parties (e.g. the Scottish Green Party , formerly Alliance 90 / The Greens or the Lithuanian order and justice ) .

After the establishment of the CoR in 1994, a so-called radical group was formed in 1995 , which was also known as the EA (see also the Group of the European Radical Alliance in the European Parliament ). In 1999 political groups were officially established in the CoR, including the EA. This was mainly made up of three sub-groups: the members of the EFA, the members of the Irish Fianna Fáil and independent English local politicians. In 2004 the members of the national-conservative Alliance for Europe of Nations (AEN) joined. The group adopted the name Union for Europe of Nations - European Alliance (UEN-EA), inspired by the Union for Europe of Nations (UEN) group. The EFA members left the group. After the dissolution of AEN and UEN and the founding of the Group of European Conservatives and Reformers, the original name was re-adopted and the EFA members rejoined the group.

The EA currently (as of May 25, 2020) has 12 members and 13 deputy members from nine nations (Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Spain). The chairman is Kieran McCarthy , Member of the Cork City Council , and his deputy is Karl Vanlouwe , Member of the Flemish Parliament for the N-VA .
