from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Network Against Racism (ENAR) is a network of over 600 non-governmental organizations based in Brussels , which has set itself the goal of countering racism and discrimination in the member states of the European Union . The chairman is Amel Yacef (Ireland).

Emergence

It was founded in 1997 as part of the European Year against Racism . Between March and September 1998 around 600 organizations came together to develop a general concept. The number of members has remained almost the same. The ENAR received a lot of approval from the participating organizations, as it offers them a forum to communicate with one another and to address the EU with their policies.

organization

The ENAR is divided into 27 national groupings, each electing a representative and a member who create the link between the national grouping and the association. These 54 envoys form the general composition of the ENAR , which is the core of the organization. They decide on budget issues as well as the general policy of the ENAR and meet once a year. The Management Board, which consists of the 27 representatives of the EU countries, is responsible for the organization of the activities of the ENAR and monitors compliance with general policies. The office consists of seven members elected by the Management Board. The organizational activities of the network are monitored here on a daily basis.

aims

The organization campaigns against discrimination, for equality , better migration and integration , social and economic inclusion of migrants, strengthening of basic rights and better education policy . A distinction is made between goals at the EU level and national goals of the respective member states:

Objectives at EU level

At the EU level, the organization tries to influence EU legislation by formulating political writings and recommendations . Basic guidelines are to be given to combat racism and discrimination. The ENAR acts as a central voice that represents the member parties and forms partnerships and coalitions with other networks and organizations .

National level goals

At the national level, the dialogue between the organizations, but also between them and the citizens, is to be strengthened. It also informs its members about current political events in the EU.
