Europanto is a language constructed with a humorous background , which is a mixture of the working and official languages of the European Union and whose structure is based on that of English . The name is made up of the word Europe and the Greek root «πάντ-» (pánt- = everything ), with a conscious echo of the planned language Esperanto .
history
Europanto was invented by the translator Diego Marani , who worked for the Council of the European Union in Brussels. According to Marani, “language is not sacred, on the contrary, we should play with it.” According to his own statement, Europanto was originally intended as a joke and less a language than “a way of seeing how we Europeans can better communicate and understand”. Marani had come up with it as a distraction for the company newspaper while at the Council of Ministers. Europanto became famous when the Belgian weekly Le soir illustré published some of Marani's humorous stories in 1997.
Europanto is a language mix of "42 percent English, 38 percent French, 15 percent other EU languages and 5 percent fantasy". There are no fixed rules and no grammar for Europanto, only the creativity of the speakers is important.
Europanto was not developed for the purpose of communication and is therefore unsuitable for it; In writing, it is true that general information can be exchanged among people with good language skills, but when explaining more complex relationships and especially in the verbal area, you quickly reach your limits.
