history

History of the Pasewalker Gymnasium

The establishment of a school for the urban population goes back to the beginning of the 15th century with the establishment of a Latin grammar school. In 1811 the school got the status of Realschule and a first girls class was installed. On April 1, 1908, the facility, now run as a Progymnasium , became state property. This is considered to be the birth of the Pasewalks high school, because the current school building was also moved into. In 1938 the school was converted into a German high school for boys, until in the course of the Second World War in 1944 the school was closed and the school functioned as a military hospital . During the GDR era, the school was run as EOS " Willi Sänger ". During the fall of the Berlin Wall she was transferred to the Pasewalk grammar school, which was named after Oskar Picht from Pasewalk in 1999 .

History of the school building

In 1905 the current building on Grünstraße was moved into. The first extension was completed as early as 1910 due to increasing space problems. The modern glass extension with science rooms was built in 1997 to counter the space problems caused by the closure of the grammar school in neighboring Strasburg .
