European Jewish Congress

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Jewish Congress ( EJC ) was founded in 1986 by the European branch of the World Jewish Congress . It is headquartered in Paris and is an umbrella organization for various national Jewish organizations in Europe.

history

At its meeting in February 2008, the Central Council of Jews in Germany decided to follow the example of Austria, France and Portugal and to suspend membership in the EJC until further notice. The background is the dissatisfaction with the current EJC President WM Kantor, who among other things extended his term of office "with sleight of hand" retrospectively by two to four years and did not take a position against visits by the Russian to the Iranian President.

organization

Vyacheslav Moshe has been cantor since 2007 . Serge Cwajgenbaum is the Secretary General . Vice-presidents of the EJC are Charlotte Knobloch , Yaakov Bleich , Henry Grunwald , Ariel Muzicant and Roger Cukierman . Stephan J. Kramer is the head of the Berlin office .
